The City Hospital Research & Diagnostic Centre was born 20 years ago with the vision of a dreamer in the medical field of Dakshina Kannada, Dr. K. Bhaskar Shetty, a dynamic surgeon. Mr. Nithyaranjandas Hegde, a businessman of repute, joined him as the other director.
The hospital is run by experienced managerial staff with unique record keeping and computerized services. Experienced and well-qualified staff with the most modern computerized laboratory equipments heads the histopathology, hematology, biochemistry and microbiology departments.
Taking into consideration the importance of Physiotherapy and the nursing care, the board of directors founded the City Hospital Charitable Trust in 1989 and started the School of Nursing and the City College of Physiotherapy. The Nursing School is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the City College of Physiotherapy is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Medical University.
The Department has well equipped intensive care units, where acute medical emergencies are admitted including Acute Myocardial Infraction cases. The quality of management is of high standards. For the last 20 years, more than 2000 cases of Acute Myocardial Infraction were admitted and nearly 200 cases were treated of thrombolysis with good results.
Physicians of the patients’ choice administer to the medical cases. Siemens whole body spiral C.T. Scan with Bone Densitome try and 3-D orthopantogram – only one of its kind in Mangalore was installed in 2002. Color Doppler and T.M.T. (Stress Test) units were also installed in 2002.
